The Soviet STZ-5 tracked tractor, part of the serial STZ-NATI-2TV tractor series, was introduced in 1937 at the STZ (Stalingrad Tractor Factory). Its durability was proven through two non-stop Stalingrad-Moscow round trips without breakdowns or excessive wear, in 1935 and 1939. The STZ-5 was the most widely used mechanical traction vehicle in the Red Army's artillery. Before World War II, 3438 units were produced, with production continuing until German infantry breached the STZ in August 1942. A total of 9944 STZ-5 tractors were manufactured.
