AIRBUS A318 - Air France - F-GUGJ

The Airbus A318, a compact member of the A320 family, was produced in limited numbers, with only around 100 units built. Capable of carrying up to 132 passengers, its operational costs proved too high for airlines. Delivered to Air France in 2005, F-GUGJ was one of 18 A318s operated by the French airline, now gradually being phased out. Primarily used in Europe and North Africa, it was eventually dismantled in Holland in 2024. A distinctive feature of the A318 was its small wings on the nose gear, or 'strakes', necessary due to the reduced distance from the nose gear to the angle of attack sensors. These wings ensured accurate readings, particularly at high angles of attack. Unique aircraft tags were crafted from these parts, painted on both sides and non-personalizable. Having traversed the globe for over a decade in extreme temperatures, this tag may bear dents, scratches, and paint imperfections, reflecting its rich history.
