Maxfield Parrish was the most successful and probably best known American illustrator of the early part of the twentieth century. That was a period known as the Golden Age of Illustration in America, and his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery set him apart.

Parrish painted "Daybreak" in 1922, and House of Art obtained the print rights, and published prints of it of various sizes. "Daybreak" was a sensation. It established Parrish as the leading illustrator of his time, his popularity exceeding that of Norman Rockwell.

It's estimated that in the 1920s, a quarter of all American households displayed a Parrish print on their walls, and this is one of those period lithographs. A century later, the color is still strong.

Framed in the original frame of carved wood, with its original glass intact.

FRAME: 11”x7”

"Daybreak" resembles a stage set, with two columns in the foreground and a painted mountainous scene in the background.
