Traveling Man Treasures is selling this incredibly rare antique reproduction of a classic Vinca anthropomorphic pottery figure. The piece is in good overall condition, although it does appear that the head has been reattached at some point. The repair is well done, and not easily noticeable.
The figure is decorated with dark-grey pigment and widens to form a flat base, is also decorated with incised striations along its V-shaped neck line and lower extremities, while its wide neck tapers to support a roughly triangular head. The abstract visage presents with semicircular eyes, a protruding nose, and striations along the cheeks.
This stunning piece was likely made during the late 19th century for the burgeoning "Grand Tour Era" tourist trade that swept across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The Vinca culture flourished from 5500 to 3500 BCE in the territories of what is now Bosnia, Serbia, Romania and Macedonia.
