This antique replica sand timer is constructed from brass. Its running time is about 5 minutes and the height is about 6 and 3/4".These sand timers make beautiful display pieces.Hour glasses were one of the few ways of measuring time out at sea. It's been suggested that their use started as early as the 11th century. Magellan even carried 18 hourglasses on each of his ships during his trip around the globe.
