Brickmania's Maus Tank

The Panzer VIII Maus, a colossal tank completed late in 1944, saw only two hulls and one turret finished before Soviet forces seized the testing grounds. Two prototypes were tested later that year. Its main armament, a 128 mm Krupp-designed KwK 44 L/55 gun, could destroy most Allied armor at ranges over 3,500 meters. The challenge lay in finding a powerful yet compact engine to propel the tank. An electrical drivetrain was designed for a top speed of 12 mph. The vehicle's immense weight prevented it from using most bridges, so it was designed to ford six feet of water or submerge to 26 feet using a snorkel. Intended for heavy defensive positions, it would be supported by smaller tanks and infantry. A captured prototype is exhibited at the Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia.
