The CakeSafe Bare Necessities Kit contains Acrylic Disk sizes 4", 6” and 8”along with an 8” Quad Icing Scraper. Use this Disk Kit to create sharp edges and smooth finishes on all of your cakes! The perimeter size of this Bare Necessities Kit is .5”. The .5” Acrylic Disks will allow for ¼” of icing all around your baked cake. This amount of icing is most popular for bakers who make all buttercream cakes and don’t cover with fondant. In order to determine which size Acrylic Disk is best for your cake, measure your finished cakes and the bottom of your cake pans before ordering. Our general rule of thumb when it comes to choosing the best size Acrylic Disk is: 5" sizing: For cakes that shrink LESS than 1/8" (or not at all,) AND you are NOT planning to cover with fondant (.5" IS THE SIZING YOU ARE RECEIVING WHEN ORDERING THIS PRODUCT) .25" sizing: For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/8" OR your cakes do not shrink, but you are planning to cover with fondant .00" sizing: For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/4" OR your cakes do not shrink and you are designing a “naked” cake The 3/8" center hole in all of our Acrylic Disks help bakers to center their cake tiers on the disks by using a temporary dowel as they ice. If you do not chill your cakes before icing with the disks, you can put a temporary dowel through the disks and cake to make sure your layers do not shift. The center holes do not affect the performance of the disks, should you choose not to use them. In addition to the 3 sets of Acrylic Disks, this Bare Necessities kit comes with 2 8” Icing Scrapers, with 1 straight edge for perfect smooth sides and 3 Cake Comb patterns for beautiful detailed designs on your cakes.
