From 1915 to 1959, the 'De Havilland Aircraft Company' crafted 127 aircraft, with the DH.88 Comet, debuting on September 8, 1934, being a standout. Built for the 'Victorian Centennary Air Race', Geoffrey de Havilland aimed for a British victory, offering a racing plane for 5000 pounds. The 'MacRobertson Air Race', starting October 20, 1934, spanned 18,200 km from Mildenhall, England, to Melbourne, Australia, with 60,000 spectators witnessing the launch. Participants hailed from England, Australia, and the USA. Jim Mollison and Amy Johnson, renowned pilots, raced in the 'Black Magic' Comet, leading until Karachi. However, a fuel mishap in Jobbolpore ruined their engines and hopes. The favored Pander S4 'Panderjager' crashed in Allahabad, while the Dutch DC-2 'Uiver' was close behind the leading Comet. Ultimately, the 'Grosvenor House' Comet, piloted by C.W.A Scott and T. Campbell Black, won after 71 hours, followed by the US crew Turner/Pangborn/Nichols in a Boeing 247-D after 92 hours and 55 minutes.
