DIRK BIKKEMBERGS is a brand based on a shoe brand established in 1985 by Dirk Bikkembergs, who is from Germany.
Bikkembergs studied fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. During his time there, he and his classmates Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, and Marina Yee, along with five others, traveled to London and were known as the Antwerp Six, gaining worldwide fame.
He graduated at the top of his class in 1981 and worked as a freelance designer for numerous companies the following year.
In 1984, he launched his own brand while working as an assistant to JEAN PAUL GAULTIER alongside his classmate Martin Margiela.
In 1988, he presented a full men's wear line at Paris Fashion Week and received high praise.
In 1998, he launched the second line, BIKKEMBERGS.
He also designed the uniforms for the Milan soccer team Inter and won numerous fashion awards, but in 2012, he sold the brand, and Bikkembergs left the fashion world.
His work is characterized by a punkish style that mixes modern materials, influenced by Gaultier, but Bikkembergs' true essence lies in the beauty of the body, which he believes is essential for the beauty of clothing, and the fusion of sports and fashion comes first.

This is a knit from Dirk Bikkembergs Homme.
It's an early 90s piece, named HOMME to distinguish it from the women's line. It's an archive piece with a slightly oversized, roughly knitted, mid-gauge, sporty thick stripe pattern, a mock neck, and a punk-like treatment with the raw edges of the knit layered from the ribbing of the sleeves and hem.

Due to its age as a vintage archive piece, there are several holes in the collar, right front, and right back, and there is pilling throughout.
