From 1926, Albert Decaris (1901-1988) created numerous book illustrations, notably the first three volumes of Chateaubriand's 'Mémoires d'outre-tombe', La Rochefoucauld's 'Réflexions ou sentences et Maximes morales', and works by Ronsard, Shakespeare, Barrés, Vigny, Eschyle, and Corneille. Since 1933, he has regularly engraved, producing around 500 stamps. Decaris was an Institute member from 1943, exhibited at the 1945 Salon d'automne, and was named a Marine painter in 1973.
