Friends, Circa 2022 by Mr Cute

Mr Cute, a collaborative duo of French brothers from Rennes, draws inspiration from their artist mother and their upbringing between artistic freedom and conservatism. After studying art and communication, they pursued careers in audiovisual production while practicing art as amateurs. A turning point in 2015, when one brother was diagnosed with an orphan disease, led them to become professional artists, adopting the motto 'Stop waiting for Friday'. Known for their large-format slides that humorously and provocatively revisit key figures of a generation, Mr Cute's work is marked by the energy of pop art and street art. Their creations, centered around 'living fully and without regrets', explore the relationship between art and time, with a particular influence from Warhol and the culture of the 1980s. They employ various techniques such as serigraphy, stencil, and lenticular printing, and have dedicated themselves fully to their artistic career since 2016, exhibiting widely in Europe and the US. During the pandemic, Mr Cute took to the streets to share their art and raise awareness about domestic violence, creating notable pieces like the 'Stop wait for Friday' station at Montparnasse, a portrait of Etienne Daho in Rennes, and a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg in Paris. Each artwork bears a 5-franc coin on the reverse, authenticating their pieces.
