Alberto Decaris (1901-1988) created numerous book illustrations from 1926 onwards, notably the first three volumes of Mémoires d'outre-tombe, Réflexions ou sentences morales by La Rochefoucauld, and works by Ronsard, Shakespeare, Barrés, Vigny, Eschilo, and Corneille. From 1933, he regularly produced around 500 stamps. He was an Institute member from 1943, exhibited at the Salon d'Automne in 1945, and was named a Marine painter in 1973.
