Falls pose a significant risk to older adults worldwide, being the second leading cause of accidental deaths and the primary cause of traumatic brain injuries. In the US, the CDC reports that one in three adults aged 65 and above experiences a fall annually, with someone being treated in an emergency room every 11 seconds and a fall-related death occurring every 19 minutes. While senior living communities offer safe and supportive environments, their ability to prevent falls is limited. However, a fall detection system can monitor residents and alert caregivers when a fall occurs. In nearly half of falls, the older adult cannot get up unassisted, leading to 'long lies' where the individual remains on the ground for over an hour. These long lies occur in up to 30% of all falls, and roughly half of those who experience them die within six months.
