"Living for the happiness of his lover, he lives alone in his love... A world of eternal pure love filled with gentle emotion!
Singer (A. Arkin), a deaf and mute sculptor, moves to a small town in Georgia to be near his hospitalized friend, Spiros.
Mick (S. Locke), the daughter of his landlady, wants to pursue a career in music, but her father's low income due to a bad back prevents her from even listening to records. One day, Singer takes in Bryant (S. Keach), a drifter who had been knocked unconscious after hitting his head against a wall. Copeland (P. Rodriguez), a black doctor who treated Bryant, refuses to accept payment from Singer and instead asks him to interpret for deaf patients.
Singer plays records he bought for himself for Mick, who longs for music but cannot have it, and Mick tries to convey the beauty of music to Singer. Also, an incident causes a rift between Copeland and his daughter. Singer tells his daughter that Copeland is terminally ill and helps them reconcile. Then, Mick is told by her parents that her father's back will never heal and she will have to quit school and work, and she gradually begins to avoid Singer. When Singer learns that Spiros has died in the hospital, he makes a decision...
