GRADING

The following are standard codes and definitions used in auctions for 78rpm collectors. This is a very conservative grading, unlike cases where individual dealers use the same codes but set their own definitions.

E+ : Almost like new. There are only superficial scratches that are thought to have been made when taking the record out of the sleeve. This is the highest grade, but it is rarely used.

EE+ : There are very small scratches, very shallow scratches, and superficial scuffs, but there is little damage to the grooves, and the record surface is close to new.

E : There are some areas of groove damage, but the damage is shallow, and the record surface is very clean. This is a very satisfying condition for many collectors.

EE- : Between E and E-

E- : There are a moderate number of areas where groove damage is noticeable, and there are also scratches and scuffs, but it is a good record.

V+ : Groove damage is noticeable in many areas of the record surface. Also, there are many scratches and scuffs, but there are no so-called BAD SCRATCHES that cause the needle to skip. Generally, this condition indicates the result of having been used normally in the past (i.e., not treated carelessly, but used normally as a "thing" for many years), and of course, you can fully enjoy the music.

VV+ : Between V+ and V

V : Groove damage is noticeable in most of the record surface, and the surface has little or no luster. Also, there is a noticeable feeling of use, such as scratches and scuffs.
