The tale goes that Lord Bodner printed this octopus in 1826, but the truth is more complex. He actually replicated a lower-quality version of the legendary kraken, known to haunt Scottish waters. The real story begins in 1812, when Captain Duke Bramford Ballantine, seeking a cure for a royal ailment, discovered this octopus, dubbed Macrocosmus, during a deep-sea dive in the Irish Sea. The creature's sudden appearance caused a catastrophic storm, leading to the loss of most of Ballantine's crew. Years later, Ballantine provided a detailed description of Macrocosmus to the Ashmolean Museum. The print was later found in a Normandy farmhouse, and it's believed Lord Bodner claimed it as his own to gain fame. The monarchy covered up the expedition's purpose and Ballantine's death in the Zulu Wars to hide their health issues and French espionage embarrassment.
