In 2009, the Punta della Dogana, a contemporary art museum created by the foundation of François Pinault, a collector of contemporary art, was completed in Venice. This was a renovation of a 17th-century building that had been used as a customs house, with the renovation design by Tadao Ando.

This book features many photographs of works by artists such as Sigmar Polke and Takashi Murakami from an exhibition held concurrently with the Venice Biennale that year.
