In 1940, Santa Fe Railroad adorned their steel-sided refrigerator cars with a promotional series. Each car bore one of five ATSF passenger line slogans on one side, and a large Santa Fe system map on the other. Initially, a curved map design was used, but it was later changed to a straight-lined version for easier stenciling. This short-lived series, lasting until 1947, was a common sight on Santa Fe freight lines and is now considered one of the most notable schemes in freight car history.
