In the late 1850s, Berthe Morisot journeyed to Paris, where she studied and replicated works by the Old Masters at the Louvre under Joseph Guichard. She also learned from landscape painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot to master outdoor scenes. Morisot exhibited her work at the prestigious Salon in 1864, securing a regular spot for the next ten years. In 1868, Henri Fantin-Latour introduced her to Édouard Manet, leading to a lasting friendship and mutual artistic influence. In 1874, Morisot married Manet's brother Eugène, providing her with social and financial stability. Despite her husband's death in 1892, she continued painting, though she wasn't commercially successful during her lifetime. She did, however, outsell several fellow Impressionists and had her first solo exhibition in 1892. The French government purchased her oil painting Young Woman in a Ball Gown in 1894.
