Italian artillery Colonel Sergio Berlese proposed the creation of an armored vehicle akin to the German StuG III, which had excelled in the French campaign. The first prototype was swiftly assembled and delivered on February 10, 1941, just 13 months after the initial M13/40 tank. Following this, 60 more were delivered in 1941 and sent to North Africa in January 1942. The Semovente da 75/18s saw action in the North African campaign and during the Allied invasion of Sicily, supporting M tank units. Despite its limited fame, the vehicle proved effective in its role. Unlike the StuG III, it served as divisional artillery rather than a pure assault gun. Its thicker armor and lower silhouette made it harder to hit and earned it respect from Allied tank crews. Although it was initially intended for a different purpose, the 75/18 often replaced the standard M13/40. However, its limited numbers, no more than 30 at the Second Battle of El Alamein, were insufficient to sway the tide in Italy's favor. This 3D printed board game miniature piece is suitable for various games like Axis and Allies, and arrives unpainted with some assembly required.
