This Spears 8059-SR series schedule 80 PVC union fitting has a socket opening on one end and reinforced female NPT threads on the other, and is suitable for connecting two pipes. The socket end connects to pipes with a smooth bore for enhanced flow, the National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads create a tighter seal than straight threads, and the stainless steel reinforcement on the female NPT end increases the life of the fitting. The fitting has three pieces and includes a threaded connection that can be screwed or unscrewed to connect or disconnect pipes more easily than with couplings. It is made of gray PVC (polyvinyl chloride) for chemical and corrosion resistance, high strength, and less weight than fittings made from metal, and has a Viton (FKM, fluoroelastomer) seal for resistance to oils, fuels, chemicals, many solvents, weathering, and extreme temperatures. It is compatible with schedule 80 (thick wall) PVC pipes and fittings, and is suitable for chemical processing, industrial plating, chilled water distribution, deionized water lines, and chemical drainage and wastewater treatment systems. PVC can be connected to other materials such as steel, copper, or cast iron using transition fittings. The fitting has a maximum operating temperature of 140 degrees F, and a maximum operating pressure of 235 pounds per square inch (psi) at 73 degrees F.
