From 1991 to 2007, the Toledo Storm competed in the East Coast Hockey League (now known as the ECHL). They achieved back-to-back Kelly Cup victories in 1993 and 1994. In 1996, the team made history when Erin Whitten, a goaltender, became the first woman to play a position other than goalie, skating for 18 seconds as a forward against the Madison Monsters. Although the team ceased operations in 2007, it returned in 2009 under the name the Walleye.
