John Henry Twachtman, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1853, was an American artist whose life and career were significantly influenced by Frank Duveneck. After studying in Munich and Venice, Twachtman returned to the U.S. and became a prominent figure in the art world, known for his transition from the dark Munich manner to impressionism. His later works, particularly his Connecticut landscapes, are celebrated for their unique grace and delicacy. Despite his success, Twachtman was a melancholic figure who passed away in 1902 at the height of his career.
